It’s been a colder and rainier winter than many of us Angelinos are used to, though as I type this it’s a gorgeous 75 degrees outside on the first day of February.
Nevertheless, the wintery weather has inspired us. We’re pulling out the down comforters, furs, pillows, and nestling by the fireplace as many times as we can before summer swiftly approaches.
The fireplace is one of our favorite ways to add a focal point to a living space. It’s perfect for adding height and dimension to a room that needs either. Customize a fireplace with your favorite materials: brick, tile, concrete, marble, limestone. Think about an entire marble slab for drama, or a classic limestone, or maybe painted white brick for that midcentury vibe. The possibilities are endless.
On Madison has compiled an inspirational collage below where the fireplace adds not only warmth, but also an architectural quality and depth. Focusing on elegant, sophisticated neutral spaces with contrasting elements, we chose what we thought were perfect examples of what we love about the fireplace. Tip: start with a neutral palette (our favorite) and then layer on accessories, metallics, and texture to make it chic and luxurious. There’s a time and place for the Alpine cozy cabin style fireplace, but we’re focusing only on the sleek and modern.
