Not Your Grandmother’s Gingham: Spring 2015 Trends

I know what you’re thinking: isn’t gingham what they use for picnic tables and kitchen curtains? Well that was then, and this is now. Gingham is hot this spring and, thankfully, designers have thrown precious out the window and used gingham in fresh and modern ways.

Bohemian Rhapsody- Spring 2015 Design Trends

On Madison, your ever intrepid observer, is devoting the next few blogposts to Spring 2015 design trends. It may be cold outside, but we’ve got Spring fever already.

This Spring, channeling that inner hippie is hotter than, well, your vintage platform shoes. Valentino, Prada, and The Row, among other haute couture designers, are reviving the look with enough lace, fringe, ruffles and embroidery to make any girl feel like a wild child. But going Boho, whether in fashion or home décor, is tricky navigation. Done well, Boho is meant to be an independent-minded, freestyle mix of cultures and eras. Done poorly, it ends up being a costume party and looking like you got lost in a Moroccan souk.

On Madison has assembled a collage of Bohemian looks that manage to hit the right balance between free-spirited ethnic style and modern edge.

Man Love: Valentine’s Gifts for Your Man

Let’s face it, nearly everything about Valentine’s Day is about the ladies.  Ads for flowers, chocolates, lingerie and jewelry remind the men in our lives not to forget to make us feel special on February 14th.  But on Valentine’s Day it’s important to make our guys feel special, too.  Admittedly, men are hard to shop for and unless your guy likes shopping as much as you do, here are a few suggestions for design worthy gifts that will definitely remind him he’s special indeed.

Man Love

1/ “Martini” Velvet Slippers from Stubbs & Wooten: I admit I’m a sucker for a man who wears great shoes.  Your man will definitely get noticed wearing this pair of inky blue velvet slippers with martini glass embroidery from Stubbs and Wooten.

2/ Leather Sol y Luna Marine Coolers: Your guy can organize that tailgate party in style with these luxe yet sporty marine coolers in leather from the Spanish company Sol y Luna.

3/ Wine Decanter by Lee Sang Min: There are wine snobs and then there are the wine snobs who display their prized vintages in uber cool cum industrial wine bottle holders like this brass version from Korean artist Lee Sang Min.

4/ Teckell Calcio Balilla (Foosball Table): The idea of a pool table or any other “man cave” type trapping in the middle of the house is not usually at the top of most women’s ideas of decorating.   But this fabulous foosball table all in lucite and brass manages to say “man cave” in the chicest way possible.

Happy Valentine’s Day to the men in our lives!
